Hi! My name is Carolyn Lane. I represented the Canadian Institute of Public and
Private Real Estate Companies on the committee that provided advice to the
Office of the Fire Marshal in developing a guide for this website.
As a building owner, property manager or other person involved with emergency
management in large or high-risk buildings, you know the importance of being
prepared for the unexpected. The unexpected could involve virtually anything -
a person trapped in an elevator, a fire, bomb threat, gas leak, suspicious
package, or perhaps a medical emergency. Representatives of the building owners
on the committee stressed that the guidelines and sample emergency procedures
under development should address their needs in a practical and user-friendly
approach.
I think that you will find that this website has achieved this goal! It's now
up to you. You can make a significant contribution to minimize risk to the
occupants of your buildings by planning in advance to respond to all types of
emergencies. Good luck!
