Hello. I'm Bernie Moyle, the Fire Marshal of Ontario. I would like to welcome you to the emergency management website. I hope you will find your visit to be informative and useful.

Public safety is a top priority for the Ontario government. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been asked to work with owners and operators of large buildings and public facilities to develop appropriate emergency response programs. The occupants of large and complex buildings are vulnerable if a human-caused or natural disaster were to occur. Therefore, it is important to ensure that appropriate measures and safety procedures are in place to protect building occupants.

Staff from the Office of the Fire Marshal have reviewed information, available from various sources throughout the world, in order to develop material that is suitable for use in Ontario. This website contains important information and a guide that provides advice on emergency and disaster management human-caused and natural disasters.

This website has been made interactive to allow building owners and operators to develop a first draft of emergency procedures specific to their own building. Based on the answers provided to a brief questionnaire, owners and operators will be able to download procedures that they can then further tailor to their specific circumstances.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is constantly trying to improve the way we provide timely information on public safety. Use of the Internet has an amazing impact on our ability to quickly access and distribute information. An additional feature of this website is a discussion forum where you can post questions and exchange information.

We will be updating this site as additional information becomes available. I would like to thank building owners and operators for visiting this website. By implementing improved emergency procedures in your building you are demonstrating an interest in the safety of your occupants and in helping to make Ontario a safer place to live and work.
